<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure discharge lamp lighting device in which flickering is suppressed and standardization of the device can be realized, as well as a lamp lifetime being improved. <P>SOLUTION: The high pressure discharge lamp lighting device is composed of a power supply means for supplying AC current to a high pressure discharge lamp and a control means which determines a lighting mode and controls operation of the power supply means according to the lighting mode. The lighting device is further provided with a signal source to generate a reset signal and as for the lighting mode, the control means, at the time of default state, applies a normal lighting mode in which a projection tends to grow at the tip of the electrode of the high pressure discharge lamp, and when a reset signal is received, a refreshing lighting mode for melting the projection is applied for a prescribed period. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
