<p>A method of recovering zinc and lead from a molten copper matte containing dissolved ZnS, PbS and FeS by passing a liquid matte-copper mixture which is in the form of a dispersion of matte in a continuous phase of molten copper, from a sump 2, through a recirculating degasser 1 to vacuum de-zinc and de-lead the matte and then returning the copper-matte dispersion to the sump 2. The copper-matte dispersion is moved from the sump 2 into a settler 8 where the copper and matte phases separate by gravity. The separated copper is returned either directly or indirectly to the sump 2 and the separated matte is moved by gas-lift pumping into a matte circulation circuit where it is oxidised, deoxidised and continuously returned to the sump 2.</p> |
