A lock assembly comprising a locking piece 4 with apertures 42 and two rack portions 40. Two first pins 60 are connected to two ends of the locking piece. Two racks 5 correspond to the two rack portions 40 and two second pins 61 extend through the two racks 4. Two pinions 3 are engaged between the rack portions 40 and racks 5. A gear box having a driving gear 71 that includes driving teeth 710 is engaged with the apertures 42 of the locking piece 4. The assembly further comprises a surface plate 1 with a first elongate slot 11 through which the first locking pins 60 extend and a second elongate slot 12 through which the second locking pins 61 extend. The assembly may also comprise two covers 2. The pinions may each have one end engaged with a first hole 20 in the covers 2 and another end rotatably engaged with a second hole 2 defined in the surface plate.
