A roof space mounted heat pump 60 has a plurality of modules adapted to be separately inserted within the roof space 52 of a building 50. The modules include at least an evaporator 64 and a condenser 66 located within the roof space, and which when coupled together, define the roof space mounted heat pump. The heat pump may be adapted for heating water for use in the building heating system 62, and may be located on a base 68. The evaporator and the condenser may be provided as a single module or as separate modules, and the heat pump may also include a compressor and a fan. The heat pump is installed by passing at least one module into the roof space through an internal access opening 58, and the plurality of modules are assembled together to form the heat pump. The modules may be assembled using "plug and play" type connections for connecting pipework and/or electrical control connections, and the heat pump may be powered from solar or wind generators. |
