PURPOSE: A method for restricting bit generation and preventing buffer overflow of a video encoder is provided to perfectly realize MPEG-2(Moving Picture Experts Group-2) standard. CONSTITUTION: Transformed data through DCT(Discrete Cosine Transformation) and quantized data are transmitted to an inverse quantizing and IDCT(Inverse Discrete Cosine Transformation) unit(39) via a variable length coding unit(38). A bit rate and buffer control unit(36) transmits bit generation restriction value information and encoding mode information to the variable length coding unit and a mode control unit(33). The bit rate and buffer control unit sets up a bit generation restriction value by setting a bit rate line as a standard. According to the set bit generation restriction value, macro bit generation is restricted and buffer overflow to a predetermined bit rate is prevented. |
