An apparatus and a method for processing a file of a digital broadcast receiver are provided to update information effectively such as ESG(Electronic Service Guide). A controller controls a general operation of a digital broadcast receiver. A key input unit(170) generates key data according to a user selection and applies it to the controller. A memory(160) includes a program memory for storing a program for controlling the operation of the digital broadcast receiver and a data memory for storing data generated while a program is being performed. A broadcast receiving unit(110) receives data of service channels selected by a user. A protocol processing unit(120) processes data protocols of the service channels and separately outputs video, audio and broadcast information data. A decoding unit(130) includes an audio decoder for decoding video data of at least two service channels and outputting the same, and a video decoder for decoding video data of at least two service channels and outputting the same.
