PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt tension monitor for a passenger conveyor, accurately determining the belt tension of a belt transmission body by an inexpensive structure. SOLUTION: This monitor comprises: a monitor means 9 that monitors driving information on a driving motor output with a torque command for controlling the driving of the driving motor; a braking means 10 braking rotation of a reduction gear; a rotation detecting means 11 detecting rotating condition of the reduction gear; a driving device control means 12 controlling operation of the braking means, monitoring information on the rotation detecting means and monitor means, and controlling a torque command means; and a belt tension monitoring means 13 determining that a belt is not slipped when an output frequency of the monitor means is constant and the belt is slipped when the output frequency of the monitor means is changed, by ordering the torque command means to drive the driving motor with the belt transmission body retained not to rotate by the braking means.
