摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology capable of suitably rising temperature of exhaust gas flowing into an exhaust emission control catalyst when demand for temperature rise of exhaust gas flowing into the exhaust emission control catalyst exists in an exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine including variable displacement turbocharger. <P>SOLUTION: When VN openingθvn of a variable nozzle is reduced, a second target VN opening tθvn2 is defined to keep a value obtained by subtracting first temperature drop quantityΔTd1 caused by increase of turbine speed Nt from a sum of first temperature rise quantityΔTu1 caused by increase of back pressure e and second temperature rise quantityΔTu2 caused by increase of fuel injection quantity QF roughly equal to target temperature rise quantityΔTut (S109).
