<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter for restarting an induction machine in the minimum time without a torque shock while the induction machine is in a free-running state. <P>SOLUTION: The power converter includes a voltage command switching means 4 for implementing a transition control from first voltage commands Vd1, Vq1 as the voltage commands to the power converter 2 at a time when a free-running speed ωe is detected by a speed detection means 9 to second voltage commands Vd2, Vq2 set in response to the free-running speed ωe.
