PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a metallic member for a target where the enlargement of a target material can be facilitated, also, the material is uniform in the sheet thickness direction, width direction and longitudinal direction, and further, annealing after rolling is made needless. SOLUTION: The method for producing a metallic member comprises: a step where high melting point metal powder is packed into a metallic vessel at a bulk densityρ<SB>s</SB>; a step where the inside of the vessel is made into a vacuum state, and thereafter, it is sealed; and a step where the vessel is rolled at 600 to 1,200°C at a rolling ratio of Rs, and, in the case the density of the high melting point metal isρ<SB>o</SB>, the rolling ratio Rs is prescribed as R<SB>s</SB>=ä1-α×(ρ<SB>s</SB>/ρ<SB>o</SB>)}×100(%), andαis controlled to 0.50 to 0.90.
