PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device, wherein the using efficiency of light is improved and a viewing angle of a picture scattered from a screen is enlarged. SOLUTION: The image display device comprises: a light valve element which converts light made incident from a light source 2 into a picture light based on picture data; and the screen 4 which allows the picture light emitted from the light valve element to make incident to be scattered, wherein the screen 4 has a fluorescent material layer 5 formed on the surface, is designed to scatter light of wavelength different from the wavelength of incident picture light, therefore, a viewing angle of the picture light scattered from the screen 4 is enlarged and the using efficiency of the light emitted from the light source 2 can be improved.
