PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact-sized zoom lens which is suitable for a photographing optical system of digital input/output equipment such as digital still cameras and digital video cameras and has an about 10-times variable magnification ratio, and also provide an imaging device using the zoom lens. SOLUTION: The zoom lens 1 comprises a plurality of lens groups GR1, GR2, GR3, GR4 and GR5, and its variable magnification is performed by changing spacings between the groups. In addition, the last lens group (the fifth lens group GR5), which is arranged at the nearest position to an image side, is fixed in the optical axis direction when variable magnification is made and has a refractory power-variable optical element L14 whose refractory power varies when the variable magnification is made.
