PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing device for wheel suitable for a use as an axle unit for a large-sized vehicle such as a bus, a motortruck or the like, and capable of always detecting rotations of a wheel accurately while preventing a distance and an angle between a magnetic encoder and a magnetic sensor from changing, even when its outer ring is moved axially with respect to a housing. SOLUTION: The bearing device for wheel 1 is equipped with a double-row rolling bearing 2, and an annular housing 7 being adapted to be attached to a hub 34 and having an inner circumference, into which the outer ring 4 of the rolling bearing 2 is pressed. A retaining ring 15, disposed at the inner circumference of the housing 7, is adapted to prevent the outer ring 4 from dropping off. The magnetic encoder 17 is disposed at the outer ring 4 so as to be fixed thereto. Accordingly, even in the case where the outer ring 4 is moved axially with respect to the housing 7, the positional relation between the magnetic encoder 17 and the magnetic sensor 21 facing each other does not change.
