A cutting insert assembly (40) for use in chipforming and material removal. The cutting insert assembly (40) includes a cutting insert body (190) that presents at least two discrete cutting locations (230, 232). The cutting insert body (190) contains a coolant entry passage (202) aligned with the pocket opening for coolant to flow through the coolant entry passage. The cutting insert body (190) has a rake surface (192) that contains at least two of the discrete depressions (230, 232) wherein each one of the discrete depressions corresponds to one of the cutting locations. The assembly (40) includes a diverter that is positioned adjacent to the cutting insert body (190) wherein the diverter (250) has a receiving opening aligned with the coolant entry passage (202) to receive coolant through the coolant entry passage.
