<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle recognition apparatus capable of enhancing the recognizability of a subject even if there is a local high-brightness area during the night. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle recognition apparatus 1 includes a camera 2 for capturing an image including the subject of recognition, and an image processing part 3 for ternalizing the captured image through comparison with nearby pixels using a threshold. The image processing part 3 includes a local exclusion process part 32 for dividing the captured image into a plurality of blocks, and excluding blocks of locally bright parts from the subjects of computing, and a ternalizing process part 33 for computing the best expected value of the threshold based on the brightness average and the brightness dispersion of the image from which the blocks of locally bright parts have been excluded by the local exclusion process part 32. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
