<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem, wherein compensation of the changing of the state of polarization (SOP) of a signal, generated during the transmission of the signal, from a transmitter to a receiver, is difficult. <P>SOLUTION: A transmitter modulator communicates a signal by using polarization multiplexing. The transmitter modulator comprises a first modulator for encoding a first signal component according to a first modulation format; a second modulator for encoding a second signal component, orthogonally polarized with respect to the first signal component; a polarization display modulator, coupled with the first and second modulators for modulating the first signal component for introducing a first polarization display waveform into the first signal component and modulating the second signal component for introducing a second polarization display waveform into the second signal component; and a polarization beam combiner coupled with the polarization display modulator for combining the first and second signal components for transmission. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
