PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel controller that reduces the possibility of imparting an unpleasant feeling or an incongruity sense to a driver when changing over a travel mode. SOLUTION: Setting of the travel mode is changed over from a following mode to an acceleration mode by following mode changeover decision processing (S514, S525) (1) when a preceding vehicle accelerationαf is 0 or above and when relative velocity Vr with the preceding vehicle is a preset lower limit value or above (S521-S524), or (2) when the preceding vehicle accelerationαf is the preset lower limit value or above and when a collision time Tc (=-D/Vr) obtained by performing positive/negative sign inversion of a ratio of a relative distance D and the relative velocity Vr with the preceding vehicle satisfies that the collision time Tc is a negative value or is the preset lower limit value or above (S511-S513). Accordingly, it is prevented that the travel mode is changed over to the acceleration mode when the preceding vehicle decelerates, and following can be responsively performed when the preceding vehicle starts acceleration.
