An apparatus and a method for selectively receiving data by using GPS location information are provided to determine whether to match a local code corresponding to the current location of a vehicle with the selective local code of produced local information and receive DMB data information selectively, thereby reducing an unnecessary load on a memory and power consumption. A method for receiving data selectively method comprises the following steps of: dividing and decoding plural local information by using a local information category in DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) data information including plural local information, wherein the plural local information includes a local code corresponding to each local information(S104); producing local information corresponding to a selective local code selected on the basis of the local code in the plural decoded local information, and deleting the decoded local information corresponding to remaining local codes to divide data(S106); and receiving location information from a satellite, calculating the current location of a vehicle, applying a local code to the vehicle, determining whether the selective local code of the produced local information matches the local code corresponding to the current location of the vehicle, and outputting local information corresponding to the matched local code(S108~S112).
