A method for controlling a refrigerator is provided to minimize noise due to operation of a refrigeration room fan or a freezing room fan by driving the refrigeration room/freezing room fans. A refrigerator comprises a compressor(100), a freezing room evaporator(124) and a refrigeration room evaporator(122) receiving a refrigerant from the compressor, a 3-way valve(130), and a freezing room fan(142) and a refrigeration room fan(144). The 3-way valve controls the refrigerant flowed from the compressor to the freezing room/refrigeration room evaporators. The freezing room/refrigeration room fans improve the heat exchanger efficiency of the freezing room/refrigeration room evaporators. The method for controlling the refrigerator includes a freezing room cooling step, and a refrigerant collecting step for operating the compressor, blocking the refrigerant flowed to the freezing room/refrigeration room evaporators by closing the 3-way valve, and driving the freezing room fan. The freezing room fan is driven at lower speed in the refrigerant collecting step than in the freezing room cooling step.
