<p>A mobile phone is fitted with an auxiliary transmitter/receiver device which can be activated by a similar device on another phone when within range and which has its own unique code, typically the telephone number for the phone. Once the transmitter of a first mobile phone has activated the receiver in a second mobile phone, the second phone sends the two codes to a central server by means of a text message (SMS), where they are stored in a database. The central server sends a confirmation message to the first phone and a specific sound and symbol combination to the second phone, known as a valentine. The owner of the second phone is aware that somebody within the range of the auxiliary transmitter/receiver device has sent them a valentine and can react by ignoring, deleting or forwarding the valentine, or if they are interested the phone can be pointed towards somebody within range who is physically attractive to the owner of the second phone, and if the two unique codes match the combination stored on the database then a message is sent to both owners informing them that a match has been made. Alternatively, the reaction of the second owner can be sent to the first owner with a time delay ranging from several hours to several weeks. If the second owner points their phone to a third party who is not a participant in the dating system, then the system sends a message to them that no match has been made.</p> |
