<p>The vehicle light has an outer cover glass (10) made from glass or plastic material. This includes a number of discontinuities (12) which serve to diffuse the light passing through the glass. The discontinuities are created by irreversible local modifications using laser light. The vehicle light includes a lamp (26) situated in front of a reflector (28), supported in an outer case (24). A cover glass (10) fits over the front of the lamp assembly. This cover, which may be made from glass or plastic material, includes a number of small, local discontinuities (12) which serve to diffuse the light passing through the glass. The discontinuities are created by irreversible local modifications within the volume of the transparent material, and this may be achieved by focussing electromagnetic radiation on to the material, especially laser light. The discontinuities cause the light to be scattered, and transmitted via a number of total internal reflections.</p> |
