PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound optical device that can realize a high coupling efficiency at a low manufacturing cost, and also to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The compound optical device is equipped with a first optical element (surface-emitting laser) for emitting light, a second optical element (optical fiber) in which light from the first optical element is made incident, and an optical connector which optically couples the two optical elements, i.e., the first and second optical elements. In this device, the optical connector comes into direct contact with the first and second optical elements, the area in contact with the first optical element is made larger than the area in contact with the second optical element.
