A method and an apparatus for driving a display device are provided to generate a reference frequency within a tolerance error range by using various resistor components in a driver. An apparatus for driving a display device includes a reference frequency generator(430), a reference frequency compensator(440), a memory portion(420), and a signal controller(410). The reference frequency generator generates a reference frequency for driving a display device. The reference frequency compensator compensates for an error, when the reference frequency exceeds an error tolerance range. The memory portion stores a compensation software program for enabling the reference frequency compensator to compensate for an error. The signal controller controls the reference frequency generator and the reference frequency compensator.
