A device and a method for controlling power are provided to reduce power consumption in a standby mode while satisfying specification for operating only the predetermined socket among DIMM(Double In-Line Memory Module) connectors by enabling a motherboard applying an AMT(Advanced management technology) to detect a preset power management state. A power control device includes a memory, a plurality of connectors(44), and a control unit(47) supplying power to only the preset connector among the connectors when a system enters a predetermined power management state. A power switch(45) switches the power supplied to the preset connector based on control of the control unit when the system enters the predetermined power management state. The control unit turns off the power supplied to the connector by informing the switch of the state when the system enters the predetermined power management state. The predetermined power management is a power saving mode using a disk. The power saving mode represents that the network can be remotely waken up while a CPU and a RAM are a power-off state.
