446,710. Coating threads by extrusion. LEMOINE, H. G., La BuissonniÞre, Perrierssur-Andelle, France. May 28, 1935, No. 15541. Convention date, May 28, 1934. [Class 87 (ii)] Apparatus for coating flexible threads of very small section with synthetic resin &c. comprises an extrusion nozzle or draw plate consisting of two jaws, each provided with one half of the orifice of the nozzle, and a conical or other device for closing the jaws so that they make proper contact with one another, with coincidence of the axes of the semiorifices. The two jaws 1, Fig. 1, each have an internal semi-conical recess 2 terminating at the upper face in a moulding orifice 3 having a sharp edge. The jaws engage in a conical seating 4 in a container 5 for the coating material. They tend to separate under the action of two springs 7 in borings 6, but are normally jammed together in their seating by a screw cap 8. The thread is inserted when the jaws are open. The lower end of the container is provided with a similar draw plate parallel to that shown, and having an orifice equal in diameter to the stretched or twisted thread so as to be closed completely by it as it is drawn upwardly through the container. The coating may comprise successively superposed layers obtained by passing the thread through a series of draw plates having calibrated orifices of progressively increasing diameter. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the jaws 10 are of dove-tailed section and engage in slides 11 in the container 12, springs 14 tending to separate them. Their extremities rest on a conical seating 13<a> in a ring 13 screwed on the container 12, and the orifice 15 forms the top of an interior conical recess 16.
