The hip joint prosthesis comprises a metallic outer shell (10), an inlay that is anchored in the outer shell and has an articulating or bearing surface for a femoral condyle. The outer shell comprises at the front, a recess (15,16,17) extending beneath the equatorial plane of the shell. The neck of the femur is moved in a recess in a collision-free manner. The articulating surface comprises a component made of a polymer, particularly a polyethylene, ceramic or a metal.
