A preparation method of activated carbon is provided to prepare activated carbon with high physical strength and superior adsorption capacity by adding alginate, polyvinyl alcohol, and mecellose to powder phase oil carbon at a predetermined ratio, obtain activated carbon with higher strength by spraying an aqueous calcium chloride solution, and reuse the powder phase oil carbon effectively by preparing granular activated carbon from the powder phase oil carbon recovered from petrochemical by-products, and activated carbon prepared by the preparation method is provided. A preparation method of activated carbon comprises: a mixing step(S110) of mixing alginate, polyvinyl alcohol, mecellose, or mixtures thereof with powder phase oil carbon; and a hardening step(S120) of spraying an aqueous calcium chloride solution onto the mixture formed in the mixing step to harden the powder phase oil carbon. The mixing step is performed by mixing 0.5 to 20 weight parts of alginate, polyvinyl alcohol, mecellose, or mixtures thereof with 100 weight parts of powder phase oil carbon. The hardening step is performed by spraying 0.5 to 20 weight parts of an aqueous calcium chloride solution onto 100 weight parts of the mixture formed in the mixing step to harden the powder phase oil carbon. The alginate is sodium alginate, potassium alginate, ammonium alginate, or mixtures thereof. The preparation method further comprises a drying step of removing volatile components contained in the mixture formed in the mixing step. |
