PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink ejection device and method enable quick and accurate ink application to areas that are present on a medium and having fine and complex shapes. SOLUTION: This ink ejection device 10 adapted to form a pattern on a substrate 20 by ink ejection using an inkjet head 3 and having an ejection target area decision means 11, a nozzle drive section 13, and control means 12. The ejection target area decision means 11 decides the shape of an ink ejection target area based on a desired pattern to be formed on the substrate 20. The nozzle drive section 13 drives nozzles 31 of the inkjet head 3. The control means 12 decides, based on the shape of the ejection target area, nozzles 31 performing ink ejection and supplies a control signal to a nozzle drive section 13, where the control signal controls the number of times of ejection of and the landing position of ink ejected from each of the nozzles 31 performing the ink ejection.
