PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide dyed cloths of water-absorbing/quick-drying woven and knitted fabrics, which have a hygroscopic effect, an excellent water-absorbing/quick-drying performance and washing resistance of wet return property, sense of stiffness in spite of being soft, high dyeing fastness and excellent sense of wearing in dyed woven and knitted fabrics composed of a polyester fiber and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The water-absorbing quick-drying woven and knitted fabrics comprise a W-type cross-sectional polyester fiber having a specific flatness degree and a sheath-core structure. The sheath part of the polyester fiber comprises a specific amount of a polyethylene glycol and is subjected to an alkali reduction treatment to give the polyester fiber having a specific surface area in a specific range.
