The invention relates to a procedure for functionalization of a substrate starting from a molecular compound, wherein said substrate is a porous membrane, organic or inorganic and insoluble in aqueous medium, and said compound is a functional compound, insoluble in aqueous medium and soluble in an organic solvent miscible in water, and said procedure comprises preparing an aqueous suspension of nanoparticles of said functional molecular compound, where the size of the nanoparticles is equal or less than the pore size of said membrane, and filtering said suspension through said substrate, in such a way that said nanoparticles coalesce together and with the substrate so that both become closely joined. The invention also relates to the substrate thus obtained, use thereof and the device containing same.
