<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which changes setting of various operations such as reading operation, has high versatility, and is easy to use. <P>SOLUTION: In a printer 1, when command receiving part 41 receives an operation setting command ϕ1, a command execution section 43 changes an operation parameter of an operation parameter storage section 50, based on the command ϕ1. In other words, command execution section 43 changes the setting of conveyance operation in a paper feed mechanism 10, reading operation in an MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) reading mechanism 14, and recognition operation of recognizing an MICR character with a recognition section 42. Only by transmitting the operation setting command ϕ1 from a host 30 to the printer 1, therefore, several kinds of operations are performed by one printer.
