摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass composition for an ultraviolet light suppressing adverse effect caused by intrinsic birefringence and to provide an optical device using the composition. SOLUTION: The glass composition for the ultraviolet light contains Lu, Al and O in an amount of≥99.99 wt.% in total and also Lu in an amount of≥24% and≤33% and Al in an amount of≥67% and≤76% when a content ratio of Lu and Al is expressed as a cation percentage. In the optical device having an optical source generating the ultraviolet light and an optical system irradiating the ultraviolet light from the optical source to an object, the optical system is provided with an optical member, and the optical member contains a base material and/or an optical thin film composed of the glass composition for the ultraviolet light containing Lu, Al and O in an amount of≥99.99 wt.% in total and also Lu in an amount of≥24% and≤33% and Al in an amount of≥67% and≤76% when the content ratio of Lu and Al is expressed as the cation percentage.
