Provided are a solar cell element having simple configuration and high efficiency, and a method for manufacturing such solar cell element. The solar cell element is provided with a semiconductor substrate, which includes a first surface for receiving solar light and a second surface on the rear side of the first surface and has a through hole that penetrates between the first surface and the second surface. The solar cell element is also provided with a first electrode, which has a main electrode section and a conductive section. The main electrode section includes a glass composition and is formed on the first surface of the semiconductor substrate. The conductive section is formed inside the through hole of the semiconductor substrate by being electrically connected with the main electrode section, and has a glass composition content ratio smaller than that of the main electrode section.
