<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable machine for an electronic key system capable of searching the portable machine without using an exclusive device for searching the portable machine and the electronic key system with the portable machine. <P>SOLUTION: The portable machine 2 for the electronic key system has an LF receiving section 21 capable of receiving a radio signal transmitted from an onboard device 1 by radio waves in an LF band and a UHF transmitting section 22 capable of transmitting the radio signal to the onboard device 1 by radio waves in a UHF band. The portable machine 2 for the electronic key system conducts authentications required for carrying out various controls to the onboard device 1 by conducting a radio communication between the portable machine 2 and the onboard device 1 by these LF receiving section 21 and UHF transmitting section 22. The portable machine 2 has a UHF receiving section 23 capable of receiving a searching signal transmitted from another portable machine 3 by radio waves in the UHF band and a buzzer 28 informing a periphery of the existence of the portable machine 2 when the searching signal is received by the UHF receiving section 23.
