An LCD device and a driving method thereof are provided to recognize the image properties of data and change a gray level value of the data in correspondence to the recognized image properties, thereby displaying an optimized image on an LCD panel. An LCD device comprises a window analysis unit(44), an LUT(Look Up Table) storage unit(48), and a gamma voltage supply unit(38). The window analysis unit recognizes data properties of each window supplied from the outside and generates a control signal corresponding to the recognized image properties. The LUT storage unit stores plural gamma voltages. The gamma voltage supply unit receives the gamma voltages stored in the LUT storage unit and supplies the received gamma voltages to a data driver. The window analysis unit arranges data by window in correspondence to a gray level value to generate a histogram, and generates a control signal corresponding to the arrangement form of the generated histogram. |
