An image-forming apparatus and a method for controlling the same are provided to detect malfunction of an element, which supplies an operating voltage to a heat-generating unit. A heat-generating unit generates heat when an operating power is supplied. A switching unit(130) supplies the operating power to the heat-generating unit. A relay unit(140) controls the operating power supplied to the switching unit. A malfunction-detecting unit(160) detects whether the operating power is supplied, and outputs a malfunction signal for the switching unit or the relay unit if the power is not supplied. A controller(180) outputs an off-signal to at least one of the switching unit and the relay unit if the malfunction signal is received. The malfunction signal is outputted by a photo coupler. |
