PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an engine brake force with good responsiveness according to the driver's operation in a vehicle driven by an internal combustion engine and a rotating electrical machine.

SOLUTION: An ECU performs a program including a step (S100) for calculating the time elapsed from the previous gear shift to the current gear shift, a step (S104) for increasing the rate of engine speed if the elapsed time is equal to or less than a predetermined period of time (YES at S102), a step (S106) for determining the increased rate of engine speed, and a step (S108) for performing the process of controlling increase in the engine speed.
