PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of efficiently utilizing a platen roller. SOLUTION: In the printer with a thermal head and a platen mechanism 1, the platen mechanism 1 includes a platen roller 3, a platen shaft 4 provided integrally rotatable with the platen roller 3, a drive shaft 6 journalled to one frame and rotatable by the drive of a drive source, and a spindle 9 journalled to the other frame. The platen mechanism further includes a joint surface 4a wherein the drive shaft 6 is formed connectably to one opening end part of the platen shaft 4 and a joint surface 4a wherein the spindle 9 is formed connectably to the other opening end part of the platen shaft 4.
