METHODS OF FORMING PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS HAVING OPTICAL FUNCTIONALITY

A method for forming a printed circuit board having optical functionality is provided to improve an optical performance in comparison to an optical waveguide directly formed on the printed circuit board. A method of forming a printed circuit board(10) having optical functionality includes the steps of: coating a dry film layer(4) on the printed circuit board; and directly forming an optical waveguide with a core and a clad surrounding the core on the dry film layer. The optical waveguide is formed by directly forming a first clad layer(12) on the dry film layer; forming a core layer(14) on the first clad layer; forming the core by patterning the core layer; and forming a second clad layer on the first clad layer and the core.
