PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a filter base material used for an air filter and having excellent heat resistance, excellent pleat processability and excellent shape retainability at high temperature after the formation of pleats by imparting a synthetic resin to a woven fabric comprising polyphenylene sulfide fibers to set a bending resistance within a specific range. SOLUTION: This heat-resistant fabric is obtained by impregnating a non- woven fabric comprising polyphenylene sulfide fibers having a single filament fineness of 0.1-15 de and a fiber length of 2-100 mm with a synthetic resin selected from an epoxy resin, a phenolic resin, a vinyl ester resin and an unsaturated polyester resin in an amount of 5-50 wt.% based on the total weight of the non-woven fabric, has a bending resistance (JIS L1096.Gurley method) of 3,000-10,000 mgf, and satisfies a relation: 10<=Y/X<=20 and a relation: 200<=X<=500, [X is METSUKE (g/m<2> ); Y is bending resistance]. A filter base material for an air filter is obtained by bending the fabric in a pleat-like shape and subsequently thermally treating the bent fabric at a temperature of 100-250 deg.C. |
