Gathering stitcher with variable chain distribution

The stitcher (100) has an endless gatherer chain (20) comprising a set of fixed chain roof segments connected together for forming a chain roof to gather and transport folded sheets (201-209), where driving elements of the gatherer chain are adjustable between an inactive position and an active position. The driving elements project out of the chain roof transversely relative to a conveying direction of the gatherer chain. A control device is provided for driving the driving elements. An inkjet device (2) is fitted to a side of a gathering section. An independent claim is also included for a method for adapting an endless gatherer chain of a gatherer stitcher to a format of a product to be processed.
