A coupled connection comprises a first tubular 46 aligned on a longitudinal axis with a second tubular 52 and joined by a connecting sleeve (54, fig 3) having a first end 56 overlapping the first tubular and a second end 58 overlapping the second tubular. At least one of the sleeve ends is held away from the adjacent tubular upon makeup. This is achieved by a projection 64, 66 situated on either the sleeve or the adjacent tubular. A seal 50 may be retained between the tubulars in the connection.
