A cement slurry for use in a wellbore is disclosed which comprises a hydraulic cement and an alkali swell able polymer as a thickening additive. The thickening polymer rheology modifier) may be a latex such as a carboxylated acrylic copolymer and specifically a styrene-butadiene copolymer. The viscosity may be further modified by the presence of a surfactant associated with the polymer latex, whereby the surfactant may bridge the latices to alter the viscosity. Also disclosed is a method of cementing a well. |
