A data processing device and a method thereof are provided to minimize power consumption by keeping a CPU core in a power saving mode without repeatedly changing between the power saving mode and a run mode by enabling an application controller to have a control authority for a memory bus during the power saving mode. A memory controller(12) controls access to a main memory(16). A CPU core(11) transfers a memory address storing application data and turns over a control authority for a memory bus(14) if a predetermined application is executed when a power saving mode is entered. An application controller(13) accesses the data stored in the memory arrangement by controlling the memory controller with the control authority received from the CPU core. The application controller turns over the control authority for the memory bus to the CPU core when all of the data stored in the received memory address is accessed. The CPU code transfers a signal representing interrupt occurrence to the application controller and the application controller turns over the control authority for the memory bus to the CPU code when an interrupt occurs.
