An image capturing apparatus and an image capturing method are provided to shorten a delay time that may be felt by a user and reduce a stress felt by the user due to the time delay. A flash unit flashes a flash in capturing an image. A dummy sound generating unit generates a dummy sound from when a shutter button is pressed until when the flash is flashed. An image capture preparation time determining unit(170) previously determines an image capture preparation time taken from when the shutter button is pressed until when the flash is flashed. A dummy sound generation time point determining unit(180) determines a time point at which the dummy sound is generated by the dummy sound generating unit such that the time from when the dummy sound is generated until when the flash is flashed is within a sense limitation time which is sensed by a user that the dummy sound and the flashing of flash occur simultaneously.
