A capacitive medium sensing apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to use the apparatus for a long time by using changes in capacitance to sense media. A capacitive medium sensing apparatus includes a sensing unit(40), a first detection unit(51), a signal conversion unit(52), a second detection unit(53), and a control unit(10). The sensing unit senses capacitance of a transfer path through which media are transferred. The first detection unit detects a frequency variation of the sensed capacitance. The signal conversion unit converts the frequency output into voltage output. The second detection unit detects a variation of the converted output voltage. The control unit compares the detected voltage variation with a reference voltage variation to sense the number of the media. |
