A necklace-type portable device and an operation method thereof are provided to deliver various input signals once a user pulls a body unit at various frequencies or times while the portable device is hung around the user's neck, thus the user can operate the portable device only by pulling the body unit in portable state. A body unit(22) is equipped with a controller(40). A signal input unit(30) is installed to emerge by external power applied to the body unit on one side of the body unit, and is restored to an original state once the external power is removed. By pulling the body unit, an input signal is delivered to the controller from the signal input unit. Another signal is delivered to the controller from the signal input unit according to frequency or time for pulling the body unit, in order to operate a portable device(20).
