PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely obtain the spectral transmission characteristics of ink to the print conditions of a print sample to be measured. SOLUTION: In a method for measuring optical characteristics, the spectral transmission characteristics of a colored layer due to single or a plurality of types of colorant, or the combination of the plurality of types of colorant are calculated by the spectral reflection characteristics of the colored layer. In the optical characteristic measurement method, the spectral transmission characteristics and spectral reflection characteristics in a reference colored layer determined as a reference that is the same as or approximate to each colored layer are acquired in advance in a first process, and the spectral reflection characteristics of the colored layer are measured in a second process. Then, in a third process, the spectral transmission characteristics of the reference colored layer are corrected, based on the spectral reflection characteristics of the colored layer and those of the reference colored layer to calculate the spectral transmission characteristics of the colored layer.
