PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method and a detection kit to use a PNA (peptide nucleic acid) probe, more easily, accurately and quickly detecting the objective DNA or RNA in a specimen. SOLUTION: The objective DNA or RNA in a specimen is hybridized with a PNA probe hybridizable with the DNA/RNA, by incubating the DNA/RNA and the PNA probe, in a hybridization liquid containing DMSO, and the obtained hybridized product is washed with a washing liquid containing a lower alcohol having a carbon number of 1-4.
