PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muffler capable of restraining its space from being push-expanded by water pressure, when water is splashed toward between a cover with a sound absorbing material and an outer peripheral surface of a muffler shell. SOLUTION: In this muffler 1. the whole outer periphery of the muffler shell 3 is enclosed by the cover 9 with the sound absorbing material 8. The cover 9 is formed of an elastic thin metallic plate, and is installed on the muffler shell 3, and holds the sound absorbing material 8 between the cover and the outer peripheral surface of the muffler shell 3. Since a folding-back part 9b is arranged in this cover 9, when the water is splashed as indicated by an arrow, its water strikes on the folding-back part 9b, and the folding-back part 9b is effectively pushed toward the outer peripheral surface of the muffler shell 3. As a result of it, adhesion between a contact part 9a and the outer peripheral surface of the muffler shell 3 is enhanced, and the space between the contact part 9a and the outer peripheral surface of the muffler shell 3 is restrained from being push-expanded by pressure of the water forcibly intruding in its space.
